Above the metro station lies the gently sloping Syntagma square (Plateia Syntagmatos = Constitution Square), the most popular meeting point of the Capital, located in the heart of modern Athens. You will walk through the historical National Garden where the Zappeion Megaron is placed, a part of national heritage of Greek civilization.

Passing by the Old Royal Palace, the first royal palace of modern Greece that was completed in 1843 and houses the Hellenic Parliament since 1934, you will have a stop to see the Monument of the Unknown Soldier, right in front of the Royal Palace, which is guarded 24 hours a day by two “Evzoni”, members of the Presidential Guard, an elite unit of the Greek Army. After watching the changing of the Guards you will continue your walk to the “Ilion Melathron” that houses the Numismatic Museum of Athens since 1985. A little further down the road you will come across the Athenian Trilogy, a marvelous 3 building complex that encompasses The National Library, The University of Athens and the Academy.

Then you will cross the full of cars, traffic and crowds city center to reach the equally crowded and full of life Monastiraki Square with the famous Flea Market and lots of souvenir shops. You will admire the Hadrian’s Library that was created by Roman Emperor Hadrian in AD 132 on the north side of the Acropolis of Athens. You will reach the Agia Eirini Square where you can have a small break and the chance to taste delicious loukoumades or koulouri and a take away coffee or Raki shots and drinks.Your next visit will be the vibrant neighbourhood of Psyrri with the numerous café, taverns, bars and sweet shops. The tour will end at the House with Caryatids that was built in the late 19th century and is a typical example of Athenian neoclassicism.
